The 2010 BTA Business Equipment Quota Index (BEQI) provides market potential (product demand) indices for the U.S. market. Specifically, through a comprehensive study conducted on behalf of BTA by Lieberman Research Group, a market research and consulting firm, in partnership with MarketResearch.com, users of the BEQI are provided with an index for the desired state, county, MSA (metropolitan statistical area) or ZIP code in the United States. These indices can be used to:
- Forecast Sales
- Evaluate Territories
- Measure Sales Potential
- Establish Sales Quotas
- Measure Sales Performance
To meet the needs of various BEQI users, BTA reports on several major office equipment categories. The specific product lines covered are MFPs laser printers (categorized by color capability and page-per-minute printing speeds), wide-format printers, dedicated scanners and fax machines. For each category, BEQI indices are provided for 2009 (actual purchases) and planned purchases for 2010 and 2011.
Each BEQI index number is based on two data sources: (1) Dun & Bradstreet data showing the number of employees by industry in each geographical area; and (2) data from a survey of hundreds of decision-makers regarding the amounts of equipment purchased in 2009, and planned for 2010 and 2011. Respondents took part in a Web-based survey (stratified by 13 industries). Respondents were screened to verify that they were involved in business equipment purchasing decisions, and that they were employed by non-government organizations with at least 10 employees. To derive the BEQI indices, ratios of equipment purchases per employee were computed at the industry level and then applied to the distribution of employment by industry at each geographic level.
The 2010 BEQI includes the results of questions asked of those surveyed about current and planned use of managed print services (MPS) contracts and about centralization/decentralization of office equipment purchasing.
New with the 2010 BEQI, a State & Local Government Supplement is also available.
