2013-2014 Business Technology Association Officer Election

Each year, the dealer members of the Business Technology Association elect several volunteers to serve as officers at the district and national levels. One volunteer from each district is appointed to serve on the national BTA Board of Directors alongside the national officer team. The annual term is July 1 through June 30. A total of eight individuals serve on the national board, setting policy for the association and providing guidance on the development of member programs. The board members meet in person two to three times each year and otherwise meet via a conference call each month.
The following officers will serve on the BTA national and Mid-America boards:
Todd J. Fitzsimons, director of business development at Network Imaging LLC, Southington, Conn., will serve as 2013-2014 BTA national president. Fitzsimons began his career in the document solutions industry in 1989 working for a local Canon dealership. In 1991, he joined Hallet and Co. as sales manager. In 1997, he purchased the dealership and shortly after changed the name to Network Imaging LLC. In January 2013, he merged Network Imaging with Automated Business Solutions of Rhode Island. The 54-year-old dealership sells Sharp, Kyocera, Lexmark and Muratec and also offers document management, network services and mailing solutions. The company's territory covers Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Fitzsimons, who was named BTA's Volunteer of the Year in 2011, currently serves as BTA's national president-elect.
Dave Quint, president and CEO of Advanced Systems Inc., located in Waterloo, Iowa, will serve as 2013-2014 BTA Mid-America immediate past president. Advanced Systems Inc. is a 55-year-old corporation that now includes eight offices covering a large part of northern and eastern Iowa, overlapping into Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota. The dealership's primary manufacturers are Canon and Lexmark, and the company also offers document management and managed print solutions. Quint started with Advanced Systems Inc. in 1989 as a territory sales associate and has held various sales and management positions throughout his career with the company. Quint currently serves as president of BTA Mid-America.
Following are brief profiles of the national officer candidates and BTA Mid-America candidates. At the bottom of this page is a link to an online ballot. BTA appreciates your willingness to cast your vote in this election process.
National President-Elect: Ron Hulett
Ron Hulett is president and CEO of U.S. Business Systems Inc., located in Elkhart, Ind. Hulett formed the company in 1992 with three business partners, after he worked for a short time at another independent dealership. His dealership has since grown into a two-facility business with 30 employees. The $4 million-plus dealership serves northern Indiana and southern Michigan. It represents Kyocera, Lanier and Sharp, and sells and supports many different office technology products as well as workflow and document management software. Hulett, who was named BTA's Volunteer of the Year in 2012, currently serves as BTA's national vice president.
National Vice President: Dave Quint
Dave Quint is president and CEO of Advanced Systems Inc., located in Waterloo, Iowa. BTA Mid-America District President: Dan Castaneda
Dan Castaneda is general manager of International Copy Machine Center, located in El Paso, Texas. Castenada joined the company in 2002. Previously, he worked at a Minolta-authorized dealership as service manager for 13 years. He has been in the industry for more than 26 years, both in service and management. Currently, International Copy Machine Center sells Konica Minolta, Muratec and Kip products, as well as workflow and document management software. Castaneda is trained in machine repair, networking, employee management and customer service.
BTA Mid-America District President-Elect: Bob Evans
Bob Evans is a partner at DigiTec Office Solutions Inc., located in Sugar Land, Texas. He has been in the office technology industry since 1984, when he was hired by Lanier as a sales rep in Beaumont, Texas. Evans spent two years as a rep before becoming sales manager for the Lake Charles district. He was promoted to district manager for the Lake Charles district in 1987 and then became district manager of the combined Lake Charles and Lafayette districts in 1988. In 1989, Evans was promoted to district manager for the Houston South district. He left Lanier in January 1996 to work for Danka, where he was the area manager for southeast Texas and northwest Louisiana. In July 1998, Evans decided to leave Danka and founded DigiTec Office Solutions with his partner, Bill Patsouras. DigiTec is an authorized Konica Minolta and Copystar dealer servicing Houston and six surrounding counties in southeast Texas. In addition to MFPs, the company provides managed print services and document management solutions. DigiTec has 32 employees and total revenues of $8 million.
BTA Mid-America District Vice President: Erik Crane
Erik Crane is president of Copy Products Inc., located in Springfield, Mo. He has been in the office technology industry since 1992 when he opened the Springfield branch of Copy Products Inc. for his in-laws, Toni and Vern Starks. The company has been in business for 50 years and has six offices in three states (Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas). The dealership also covers some Oklahoma counties. Copy Products Inc. is authorized to sell Toshiba, Samsung, Konica Minolta and Riso products, and markets DocuWare, Papercut and other solutions. The dealership also offers customers a full MPS staff.
