2013-2014 Business Technology Association Officer Election

Each year, the dealer members of the Business Technology Association elect several volunteers to serve as officers at the district and national levels. One volunteer from each district is appointed to serve on the national BTA Board of Directors alongside the national officer team. The annual term is July 1 through June 30. A total of eight individuals serve on the national board, setting policy for the association and providing guidance on the development of member programs. The board members meet in person two to three times each year and otherwise meet via a conference call each month.

Todd J. Fitzsimons, director of business development at Network Imaging LLC, Southington, Conn., will serve as 2013-2014 BTA national president. Fitzsimons began his career in the document solutions industry in 1989 working for a local Canon dealership. In 1991, he joined Hallet and Co. as sales manager. In 1997, he purchased the dealership and shortly after changed the name to Network Imaging LLC. In January 2013, he merged Network Imaging with Automated Business Solutions of Rhode Island. The 54-year-old dealership sells Sharp, Kyocera, Lexmark and Muratec and also offers document management, network services and mailing solutions. The company's territory covers Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Fitzsimons, who was named BTA's Volunteer of the Year in 2011, currently serves as BTA's national president-elect.

Following are brief profiles of the national officer candidates and BTA West candidates. At the bottom of this page is a link to an online ballot. BTA appreciates your willingness to cast your vote in this election process.

National President-Elect: Ron Hulett
Ron Hulett is president and CEO of U.S. Business Systems Inc., located in Elkhart, Ind. Hulett formed the company in 1992 with three business partners, after he worked for a short time at another independent dealership. His dealership has since grown into a two-facility business with 30 employees. The $4 million-plus dealership serves northern Indiana and southern Michigan. It represents
Kyocera, Lanier and Sharp, and sells and supports many different office technology products as well as workflow and document management software. Hulett, who was named BTA's Volunteer of the Year in 2012, currently serves as BTA's national vice president.

National Vice President: Dave Quint
Dave Quint is president and CEO of Advanced Systems Inc., located in Waterloo, Iowa. Advanced Systems Inc. is a 55-year-old corporation that now includes eight offices covering a large part of northern and eastern Iowa, overlapping into Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota. The dealership's primary manufacturers are Canon and Lexmark, and the company also offers document management and managed print solutions. Quint started with Advanced Systems Inc. in 1989 as a territory sales associate and has held various sales and management positions throughout his career with the company. Quint currently serves as president of BTA Mid-America.

BTA West District President-Elect: Cathy Dimon
Cathy Dimon is president of Northern Business Systems, located in Fairbanks Alaska. She began her career in the copier industry in July 2011 when she and her husband, Tom, purchased Northern Business Systems. Prior to this, Dimon was in the medical/health-care field for 20 years. Northern Business Systems was established in 1992 and has been a Sharp dealership since 2005.



BTA West District Vice President: John Hines
John Hines is CFO of Copiers Northwest Inc., a Canon, Sharp, Konica Minolta, HP and Lexmark dealership in headquartered in Seattle, Wash., with offices throughout the state of Washington as well as Portland, Ore. Hines is an accounting graduate from the University of Washington, holds a CPA certificate in Washington state and received his MBA from Seattle University. Hines has been with Copiers Northwest for 22 years and worked at Boeing prior to that. He was in the U.S. Navy for six years before attending college. He is currently serving on the alumni board for the Albers Business School at Seattle University.

BTA West District Secretary-Treasurer: Mike Brandon
Mike Brandon is president and CEO of ABC Office Equipment, founded in 1952 in Spokane, Wash. The dealership has represented many manufacturers over the years, but has maintained a 30-year relationship with Konica Minolta. Though copier/MFPs are the majority of the company's business, it still sells and services Olympus dictation equipment and most brands of printers and fax machines. Brandon began his career in the office technology industry in 1969 with Gray Autograph selling dictation equipment. After a year of sales, he joined the company's service department. Gray Autograph was purchased by Lanier Business Products, and Brandon relocated to the Bay Area where he worked as district service manager in San Francisco and regional sales manager in Los Angeles. After spending 12 years in the service department, Brandon requested a transfer back to Spokane where he sold word processing equipment for five years until Lanier closed the office. Lanier negotiated with ABC Office Equipment to service the base of word processing and dictation equipment, and Brandon was hired to sell copy machines for ABC. He became a partner in the business, and 10 years later, ended up the majority owner of the dealership.


BTA West District Board Member: Joe Escamilla
Joe Escamilla is CEO/COO of Document Systems, a Canon and Ricoh dealership located in Oxnard, Calif.
The dealership, established in 1994, has 31 employees. Escamilla's office technology career began in 1985 when he went to work as an entry-level technician for San Sierra Business Systems. The company then merged with Taylor Made Office Systems, where he continued to work as the service manager for the Fresno, Calif., area until 1995. He worked in Ventura, Calif., as the director of service for a local Sharp dealership for five years and then moved on to Document Systems in 2000 as service manager. During his 13 years at Document Systems, he has held several positions including service manager, vice president of service, senior vice president and, now, CEO/COO.
